Ya, I know. My last blog post was sometime in 2010. As of right now though, my blog will continue to be on a hiatus, since I don't want to commit to blogging everyday (most likely I will blog sporadically).
Anyway, some of my photos will show up as unavailable. There is a good reason for this. I decided to reorganize my flickr account - hence most of my photos on this blog disappeared. And quite honestly, I was to darn lazy to go through every single post to link to the correct photo.

That Day
It's August 13th! Next to our wedding anniversary this particular date holds a special place in our hearts as well. It was this day, we realized we wanted to be more than friends. I received my first kiss from J. Well, I actually I kissed him. He might disagree with me on that one, but I know I made the first move. =) One day, when I have more time on my hands, I will write our "story". It is long. But for now, I'll just post the video montage I made for J., while we were dating.

Having a Bad Day...
Ugh! Not having a good week at all! Maybe I'm PMSing, not sure. Monday started out rough and it hasn't gotten any better. The economy stinks! Making my job search more difficult and frustrating. Example: Applied for a position at a Law firm. They received 500 applicants for this position. I was lucky enough to get an interview, and made it to the final three selection. Interview went great, connected well with the would be boss lady. Yet, I didn't get the position.
Typically, they don't give you a reason, as to why you didn't get the position. If you're lucky you will get a declination email or letter. However, most of the time business do not even bother with this simply courtesy, even after you have exchanged numerous emails or phone calls through out the hiring process.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced this: Apply to Job. Wait to see if you get interview. Get interview. Email/Call to confirm interview. Go to interview. Send Email/Letter thanking them for the interview and meeting with them. Get 2nd interview. Wait. Send Email a week or few days later to see if a decision was reached. Wait. No reply. A week later still no reply. You assume and know you didn't get the position. Now, you're left pondering. Why??? Reasons??? Perhaps, a) I want to much money, b) they simply don't like me, and c) I'm overqualified!
On another note, I work in the insurance industry, but have been contemplating about switching fields - specifically looking to get into the Healthcare Management Industry. Anyway, found a great job opportunity ~ to get my foot into the door. Applied to job. Received confirmation. Received phone call to set up interview. Went to the interview. Instead of a one person interview, it was a panel interview. Not a big deal! Confident, since I had practiced potential questions. The interview went great, until one of my potential new boss states this: "Your resume looks great. You have lots of experience. But I don't think this is the right position for you. I think you will get tired and bored of the position quickly." Naturally, I refuted her statement, as to why I didn't agree with her. However, in reality it was pointless to even attempt. I knew, then and there, I wouldn't be getting an job offer. In Their Opinion, I was over qualified. In Their Opinion the position wouldn't be challenging for me. In Their Opinion, I would out grow the position in a few months.Therefore I would want to leave. Despite the fact, that I have zero experience in the Healthcare Management Industry.
So, when a company knows an applicant is overqualified, why do they bother with granting them an interview. Confused here! Knowing that they will ask for too much compensation and will out grow/get bored with the position quickly. Why waste their time and your time?! I don't get it.
Since I'm already on a rant here. Let me gripe about my current employment. Yes, I know. I should be grateful that I have a job, especially in this economy. But I have legitimate reasons to complain. I've been working for this company for about 6 years now. I started out as a part-time employee, while finishing up my B.A. Eventually, I started working full time, while I completed my graduate work. During this time, I received one pay raise. ONE! Why did I stay, well the job was conveniently located to my school and my boss was flexible with days off when I needed more time to focus on my school work.
After finishing graduate school, I must confess I didn't immediately search for a new job, since I wanted to travel a bit and needed the flexibility. Once I started actively searching for other employment, the economy took a nose dive...and here I am still searching and working at this company, I'm starting to despise. Each day growing more and more frustrated with my job, working for Mr. Scrooge. I don't receive any health benefits. Until just recently, I had to purchase health insurance 100% out of my pocket. Paid approximately $75 for major medical, which required me to pay at least 75% out of pocket each time I visited a doctor. Thankfully, I'm able to get insurance through J's work now. However some of my medical visit, could have been filed as a Workers' Compensation Claim. Why I didn't file?? Well, the lovely boss (insert sarcastic tone) has not had WC insurance, since I started since he is too cheap. Have I mentioned, that I work in the Insurance Industry?! He should know better! Not to mention, he could get a hefty fine. I don't receive paid sick days, nor do I receive paid vacation! Unfortunately, I can't quit my job, since I need the paycheck to pay for my bills, if not I would have put in my two weeks notice.
My apologies, if I bored anyone with my rant. I will get off in a few minutes, and going to purchase some fresh cut flowers that will hopefully brighten my day. Toodles!

The Past Decade....
Edit: I started this post on Day 2 of 2010. But it took me a bit longer to find all the photos.
It's Day 4 in this brand spankin' New Year! Nothing exciting has happened yet...therefore I'll post a brief synopsis of the past 10 years from the perspective of moi. This post should be interesting, as I'll be busting out some old school photos.
New Year's Eve 1999
I didn't spend it with these guys, but decided to post this old school picture of Dani, I and Marlith, simply because I have no clue if my folks read this blog. Despite being an adult and married some things should remain in the closet, don't you agree?! As for Jared, he was some where in Caracas, Venezuela.
Year 2001
Hmmm...what happened in this year. Slowly but surely, getting adjusted to the American Way of Life. After living in Germany for 20 yrs, it took some time to get the hang of things. But afterward it was smooth sailing. Other than that, nothing spectacular happened, except for my car accident. I totaled my car in the process. Dropped out of school due to the injuries I sustained. This also delayed my graduation date. I have some photos of the car accident somewhere, but can't find them at the moment. Not to mention, I don't have a scanner.Then again, I doubt anyone would want to see the photos anyway. So, unfortunately 2001 doesn't get a photo. Also, sometime around here Jared and I lost touch. Year 2002
consisted of going back to college, to finish up my Bachelors of Arts. Of course do the typicalcollege stuff, such as party, party, party. And since we don't need anymore party photos...I won't post any. =PNew Year Eve 2003

One of my best friends from College, Marlith, got married and I got to be her Maid of Honor. Jared and I reconnected by visiting each other. Prior to that, we were in touch sporadically, with me always trying to get in touch with him. It was pretty oneside. He might disagree...but it was pretty much of me. To J: My mail got returned to me and this number is no longer in service. Need I say more!

Jared and I strolled down memory lane and attended an Adult Prom in 2007. Ok, not really. I was just kidding. Actually, my younger sister Nita, got married in September. Towards the end of the year, on my dad's birthday (29.Dec.07), I got engaged. Naturally this year was great in my book as well.
Year 2008
Dani, my other best friend from college, got married. Marlith and I got to stand up by her side on her special day. Her wedding was also a small mini reunion of the Turley High gang. Jared and I traveled to the East Coast and I became an Auntie again.
Year 2009
All in all the past 10 years was full of ups and down, and most important life lesson. 2010 bring it on!

Canon 50D
Initially I wanted to purchase a used full-frame camera (at a very good price) at a local used camera store. However, by the time my payday rolled around someone else had purchased it. Oh well, I'm sure there will be other opportunities to buy a used full-frame. So instead, I drove down to Samy's and purchased myself the Canon 50, along with the 50mm 1.8 lens. And to be honest, I'm quite happy with my purchase. And this past weekend, I had plenty of opportunities to use my new camera.

Bienvenue! Willkommen! Welcome!
Bienvenue à notre blog! Welcome to our blog! This is our first post! Woohoo! I've been a blogger for about a year now. My sister Nita got me to join the blogging world, when I got engaged. Surprisingly it's quite fun! In addition, to my personal blog, I decided to create a blog for the both of us, so that all our friends and family can be part of our adventurous and exciting lives here in Southern California. Hence, our blog is called "La maison Russell", although I haven't formally changed my name to Russell just yet. For some reason, I'm having a hard time letting go of my last name. But we'll leave that for another post. =)
